Liverpool 2-1 Blackburn Rovers
I usually get a bit annoyed when the managers complain about the officials but this time it seemed quite reasonable.
Blackburn really should have gone down to ten men. You can get sent off even for putting your hand near someone’s face, this can be interpreted as ‘striking or attempting to strike’ another player.
Blackburn did play very well though and despite their away struggles, maybe they could have got a point out of this if Fernando Torres hadn’t got his first start since returning from injury. Jason Brown was on the bench for Blackburn.
Sunderland 0-0 Fulham
Sunderland have now failed to win in 14 games – without their excellent run at the start of the season, they really would have been in trouble. As it is, they’re only three points above the relegation zone. Fulham played their eighth game in a month and weren’t at their best but it was still a point.
Simon Davies set up a chance for Bobby Zamora but his header was blocked. Simon played the full match. Again. If he collapses with exhaustion in the Wales v Sweden game, I’ll know who to blame.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Everton
This win puts Tottenham back in 4th place, something I would be very unhappy about if Gareth Bale wasn’t Welsh. Not that everyone knows he’s Welsh. He’s been suggested as a possible England left back by so many people, anyone would think he hadn’t made his international debut four whole years ago. But it’s not like I can’t see why they’re getting so excited about him. Benoit Assou-Ekotto watched from the bench as Gareth became fans’ Man of the Match and Everton’s biggest problem. Tottenham were pretty lucky though. If Landon Donovan had been his usual self, it would have been 2-2 all over again.
