Championship Results 16th January Part 1

Blackpool 2-2 Queen’s Park Rangers
Blackpool’s Neal Eardley conceded a penalty but it seemed more ball-to-hand than hand-to-ball – not even the QPR players appealed. Rob Edwards stayed on the bench but there was still a lot of Welsh chopping and changing for Blackpool. Daniel Nardiello came on after 89 minutes and for a while minute (well probably not really a whole minute) there were three Welshmen on the field of play but then sometime in the 90th minute, David Vaughan was replaced. I hope David isn’t injured. He was one of Blackpool’s best players and nearly scored.

Bristol City 4-2 Preston North End

Lewin Nyatanga was the only one of Bristol City’s four Welsh defenders to feature in this game and he wasn’t quite at his best but he got the win in the end. I thought Christian Ribeiro would be on the bench but after his supersub appearance in the FA Cup game against Cardiff, I thought Gavin Williams deserved to play some part in the game but maybe he’s being saved for the FA Cup replay. Gavin is hoping to be called back into the Wales squad so ne needs regular games. James Wilson was again omitted from the squad.

Doncaster Rovers 2-1 Watford
Doncaster captain Brian Stock finally made his injury comeback (he would have done it sooner but there weren’t any games) and managed 78 minutes. Southampton are interested in buying the midfielder but it’s hard to imagine Doncaster wanting to let him go after an excellent performance.
Gareth Roberts scored a brilliant goal from 20 yards to put Doncaster 2-0 up and John Oster also played the full game. He hasn’t signed his new contract yet but Doncaster are hopeful he will.

Ipswich 3-2 Coventry City
Coventry took the lead early on with an assist from Freddy Eastwood but after a frenzied final minute, Ipswch took the points.
