FA Cup Third Round Results 13th January Part 1

Birmingham City 1-0 Nottingham Forest (Third Round Replay)
Nottingham Forest outplayed Birmingham for much of the match but part of the reason they’ve gone on such a fantastic unbeaten run in the Championship is because of their defenders. So leaving Chris Gunter on the bench was quite a surprising move. He came on ten minutes after Birmingham’s goal and Birmingham didn’t score again. Unfortunately Forest were without the injured Rob Earnshaw and despite several good chances, they just couldn’t find an equaliser, much less a winner.

Bristol City 1-1 Cardiff City (Third Round)
At first I wondered why this game wasn’t going to extra time but then I realised it wasn’t a replay. Joe Ledley nearly scored and Adam Matthews made his 20th appearance for Cardiff. There was also a first ever start for Aaron Wildig who looked very comfortable and came close to scoring at one point, whilst Darcy Blake was on the bench. Ar 1-0 up with only stoppage time remaining, Cardiff looked set to go through. Then Bristol City went and produced a last-minute shock equaliser. The crucial goal came from Bristol City’s Welsh substitute Gavin Williams so I suppose I’ll have to forgive him. Gavin is a Cardiff fan so he probably didn’t enjoy it all that much. As for Bristol City’s other Welshmen, Christian Ribeiro stayed in the bench, Lewin Nyatanga was suspended and I believe James Wilson played for Brentford in an earlier round.
