Doncaster Rovers 1-4 Middlesbrough
Sometimes Middlesbrough do really well and you think they’ve finally turned the corner. But it never seems to be the right corner, they always have to retrace their steps and go back to where they are and then it’s ages before they find any sort of corner, right or wrong.
Doncaster’s Gareth Roberts was unlucky to face Boro on one of their good days - on another day he might have got an assist. He was also unlucky to be without John Oster and Brian Stock, who were both left out of the squad. I’m not sure why but the implication is they’re both injured although maybe Brian just needed a rest after playing several games close together.
Danny Coyne kept his place in the Boro goal and one of his saves in particular was spectacular. He also seems to be a favourite with the fans, who gave him a lot of support. Rhys Williams has a pelvic injury so he didn’t feature. Even without him, it proved to be one of Boro’s really good days which make you question what they’re doing down in mid-table.
Nottingham Forest 5-0 Queen’s Park Rangers
Robert Earnshaw scored twice in three minutes then won the penalty that led to the third as Forest proved they are more than serious about this automatic promotion business. Chris Gunter got himself another clean sheet and all those people who said it would be another relegation battle for Forest are probably feeling a bit silly now. (But for the record, I thought they would struggle too.) Forest are now unbeaten in 19 league games.
