Brentford 3-1 Carlisle United
Wojciech Szczesny has recovered from injury so he was back in goal but at least Lewis Price was on the bench rather than being dropped entirely.
Colchester United 0-5 Norwich City
Norwich will be very happy with this emphatic win over promotion rivals Colchester but Colchester might have small comfort in the fact that when they beat Colchester on the first day of the season, they scored seven goals. There were no Welsh players anywhere in either squad – Colchester’s Lee Beevers and Norwich’s Owain Tudur Jones and Rhoys Wiggins are injured and Norwich’s Josh Dawkin wasn’t selected (he’s only young so it’s great he’s getting on the bench as often as he is)
Exeter City 2-0 Leeds United
Exeter are officially better than Manchester United. Andy Marriott and Stuart Fleetwood watched from the bench as Richard Duffy and Rob Edwards got a clean sheet against the giant-killers although Richard did come scarily close to an own goal but luckily he managed to clear his own shot. It’s fair to say Rob has shown Leeds manager Simon Grayson that selling him wasn’t the best thing he’s ever done – it’s just a shame that Rob went off injured.
Hartlepool United 0-5 Milton Keynes Dons
Jermaine Easter opened the scoring in the fourth minute, beating the offside trap as well as the keeper to score against his own club. Milton Keynes Dons ended up scoring so many goals, the BBC Sport’s ‘latest scores’ section couldn’t keep track and kept adding and deleting goals all over the place.
Millwall 1-1 Southampton
My dad was devastated when Southampton scored late in stoppage time. But he’d barely managed to read the score before Millwall popped up with an equaliser. Southampton’s Lloyd James was unlucky not to score for Southampton but as usual Kenny Jackett didn’t let Jason Price off the bench, even though he’d only made one substitution for Millwall.
