Bolton 1-0 Burnley
Sam Ricketts again played the whole match (and kept a clean sheet) as Bolton got a valuable win and Burnley’s poor away form continued. It’s safe to say that Burnley fans weren’t happy to see their ex-manager Owen Coyle, who dumped them for Bolton.
Portsmouth 1-1 West Ham United
Neither side managed to get the win they needed – far from getting the fabled six points, they had to settle for one apiece. Portsmouth’s goalkeeper was in good form and saved shots from a few West Ham players including an excellent stop to keep out Jack Collison. Danny Gabbidon wasn’t ready to return from his hamstring injury.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Fulham
Gareth Bale even better than he usually does as he finally managed his first ever Premier League win in a game he’d started. The trouble with being a defender is that while you might do your job perfectly and get a clean sheet, you can’t always rely on the forwards to score for you. On this occasion, Peter Crouch was the forward to oblige and it was Gareth who won the free kick from which David Bentley scored.
Simon Davies was a 64th minute substitute. I am glad he was only a substitute for two reasons. Firstly, I think he must have been rushed back a bit too quickly the last two times he attempted to make his comeback. Secondly because he looked like the only Fulham player interested in getting something from this game and one of his shots in particular was a serious threat to Gareth’s clean sheet.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Liverpool
Wolves did very well to hold Liverpool to a draw – while Liverpool showed that their crisis is not quite over after all. And it wasn’t just a defensive effort from Wolves – they did have a good go at winning it. Unfortunately for Wales fans, Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes were back on the bench and didn’t get to play any part in this game. Dave Edwards is still out with an ankle injury.
