FA Cup Results 23rd January Part 1

Accrington Stanley 1-3 Fulham
Simon Davies came off the bench for the last six minutes (plus stoppage time) to share in Fulham’s victory over a scarily good Accrington Stanley. I’m a bit worried though because there’s a preview for Fulham’s next game that says Fulham are hoping Simon will have recovered from his injury by then. I hope it’s just a mistake and he hasn’t made another relapse. That would be so unfair.

Aston Villa 3-2 Brighton & Hove Albion

James Collins played in central defence again as Aston Villa played Brighton. He did get a yellow card but who doesn’t get those these days? Andrew Crofts captained a Brighton side that just didn’t want to give up.

Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Sheffield United
Sam Ricketts was back in the starting line-up for the first time since for ever and not only did he not score any own goals (told you) he also managed to keep a clean sheet. Some would say Sheffield United aren’t much of a test of Sam’s abilities but no doubt Manchester United and Liverpool thought the same of Leeds and Reading. Ched Evans came on as a substitute for Sheffield United which is annoying in a way but if he’d started, Sam might not have got a clean sheet.

Cardiff City 4-2 Leicester City
I don’t mind telling you, I was a bit worried. Adam Matthews and Aaron Wildig were out injured. Joe Ledley wasn’t out injured but I was kind of wondering if he’s make it through the match. When it was 2-2 at 90 minutes I couldn’t even feel happy about the replay. Cardiff don’t need any extra games.
But there was nothing to worry about. Joe survived, set up Cardiff’s first goal (and scored one of his own although it was disallowed). Darcy Blake did just fine in both midfield and defence and Jonathan Meades was on hand to fill up the bench. And Cardiff scored two goals in stoppage time. So they’re through to face… Chelsea in the next round. Oh shit.
Andy King was surprisingly left on the bench for Leicester. But I didn’t really mind too much. They were playing Cardiff.
