League Two Results 2nd March

Aldershot Town 1-0 Bradford City
Peter Taylor’s 100% record with Bradford came to an end in this third game. Aldershot have a good chance of making it into the play-offs. Michael Flynn’s Bradford do not.

Cheltenham Town 0-1 Hereford United
Cheltenham’s disappointing season continues as Hereford bounce back from their 5-0 defeat to Notts County last week.
Josh Low was on the losing side, starting off in midfield but then moving to right back following an injury to David Bird.
Ryan Green and Ryan Valentine were restored to Hereford’s starting line-up after being rested at the weekend (and they really were rested, ‘rested’ is often the Sophie word for ‘dropped’ but they really were rested, you can ask the manager).
This proved to be a good move as it was Ryan G who scored the goal, his first for four years. Darren Jones was absent from the squad altogether – as Hereford only had six substitues, my guess is he was injured in the warm-up. But I never have been very good at guessing…

Darlington 1-3 Port Vale

Darlington took the lead at home to Port Vale but as it so often the case with them this season, they just couldn’t hold onto their lead. I know Darlington don’t have any Welsh players but it’s still sad to see them in such trouble. Lewis Haldane scored Port Vale’s winner, his second for the club, with defender Gareth Owen also playing the full ninety minutes.
Craig Davies came off at half-time but I can’t find anything to suggest he’s injured. Craig has scored three goals for Port Vale now. He thinks it should have been more and he’s working hard to ensure it will be more by the time his loan finishes at the end of the season. He still believes Vale can make the play-offs… but if they do, will Craig be allowed to play? Loans to the ‘end of the season’ don’t always include the play-offs.

Notts County 1-0 Macclesfield Town
Notts County got another win but at least Macclesfield weren’t humiliated like Hereford were last night. Macclesfield haven’t won away since October. Matthew Tipton stayed on the bench so it was absolutely impossible for him to find them an equaliser.
Macclesfield’s manager, Keith Alexander, died just hours after this match. He was 53.

Torquay United 0-0 Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham’s quest for the play-offs hit yet another blip when they could only manage a draw with Torquay. Torquay actually could have gone 2-0 up early on but Tony Roberts was on hand (perhaps literally, as he’s a goalkeeper) to make sure this didn’t happen.
